The Toronto Maple Leafs are a deep hockey team with talent throughout their lineup. As the pre-season winds down, it appears a fan favourite may know the writing is on the wall for his time as a Leaf to come to an end.
According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet a cut may be coming his way. Just look at the language used in this quote.
Fox stated that Simmonds said this is the deepest team he's ever been a part of. Even the 5th line can do well at the NHL level, meaning those that don't make the team are NHL level players. Just not in Toronto
Simmonds is a great veteran and a team first guy, but even he at 34 knows his time may be coming to an end. In 72 games played with the Leafs last season Simmonds registered 5 goals and added 11 assists for a total of 16 points.
If Toronto does cut Simmonds, I'm sure he can play on another NHL roster if he wants, it would really be up to him at this point in his career. Heading into the final two preseason games of the year Simmonds is set to dress on the 4th line along with other players set to be sent to the Toronto Marlies.
