Trevor Zegras called for rare 'playing with an illegal stick' penalty and he's somehow shocked by it
Last night the Dallas Stars faced off against the Anaheim Ducks in a Western Conference matchup. The two teams are polar opposites in the standings. The Stars currently sit 2nd in the West, while the Ducks sit 2nd last. That didn't stop the Ducks from leaving with a 2-0 shutout victory.
During the 2nd period Trevor Zegras was called for a hilarious and rarely seen penalty. After engaging with Joel Kiviranta, Zegras has his stick broken. Usually Zegras would just continue to play defense without a stick or go to the bench for another.
Instead Zegras thought his best course of action was to simply steal Kiviranta's stick instead.
The referee quickly picked up on the theft and called Zegras for playing with an illegal stick. Somehow Zegras thought he should plead his case, but to no avail.
