Yet another example of why officials are becoming so hard to find in minor hockey. A video circulating on the internet captured a coach at the U13 level in Alberta going on a profanity-laced tirage against a young referee for apparently botching a call.
The video features the voice of Joel Litt-Jukes, coach of the Cochrane U13 AA team. In it, you can hear Litt-Jukes telling the official to "f--k off" and "f--k you", before really losing his cool.
You can then hear what sounds like banging in the video, before the coach yells more profanity and it ends.
In the video, Cochrane U13AA Head Coach @joellittjukes goes off on this young referee over a «soft» tripping call in the NZ. This is disgusting behaviour. Does @newera_develop support this type of behaviour from their employee? What is @HockeyAlberta stance on this? #bebetter pic.twitter.com/QE6jVOiQl5 Cody Huseby (@Huseby88) January 9, 2024
I don't think anyone would deny that things can overheat at times at any level of play. But, this seems ridiculous. According to reports, the coach has been suspended for three games for the incident.
Just found out this coach has been suspended for 3 games. They waiting on decision from @cochranemha to see if it will be more or not. But if the attention goes down this will be swept under the rug and he will be allowed to treat refs this way in the future. Rob (@soupy_rob) January 9, 2024
