It may take a little longer than first expected, but it's likely former first-round pick Jakub Vrana has played his last game as a member of the St. Louis Blues.
Earlier today, Blues reporter Jeremy Rutherford said Vrana would be placed on waivers his afternoon.
"Jakub Vrana will be placed on waivers by the Blues, according to a source. #stlblues"
It didn't happen, but that doesn't mean Vrana is staying put. Rutherford has released an update saying the original intel came from Vrana's agent, and next steps are being worked out.
"Update: Vrana's camp was told this morning by the Blues that he would be placed on waivers, according to agent JP Barry of CAA.
Something changed after that. It's not uncommon that teams engage/re-engage in trade talks. For now Vrana is in limbo until a trade or waivers."
Either way, it looks like Vrana has played his last game with the Blues and both sides are looking to move on.
In addition to being a former 13th overall pick (2014), Vrana got his name on the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018. His next two seasons with the Caps saw him hit career highs in goals and points, but it's been a steady regression since then. In 19 games this season, Vrana has 2 goals and 6 points.
