The Toronto Maple Leafs and William Nylander are heading into the new National Hockey League season without a contract extension in place, not unlike Johnny Gaudreau did recently before he left the Calgary Flames for the Columbus Blue Jackets last off-season.

Now, according to insider Chris Johnston, it appears Nylander is taking the same exact approach Gaudreau did before he walked into free agency; take a look.

Facing reporters on the opening day of #leafs training camp, William Nylander reiterated his desire to stay in Toronto long term and politely said he won't be fielding any more questions on his contract status.

Coincidently, Nylander and Gaudreau have the same agent in Lewis Gross and from the way things are looking, Gross is following the same playbook to the letter. Nylander has essentially copied Gaudreau's statement to the letter before he left Calgary.

Nylander, 27, had a remarkable season last year skating in all 82 games for the Leafs scoring 40 goals and adding 47 assists for a total of 87 points.

It's only a matter of time before we see the same kind of thing happen and Nylander makes his exit from Toronto.
