After taking over as General Manager, Brad Treliving reached out to both Auston Matthews and William Nylander. While conversations with Matthews are reported to have gone extremely well, the same can't be said about William Nylander.
According to multiple NHL sources Nylander's ask from the Maple Leafs was for more than $10,000,000 per season. A number the Leafs have no interest in paying. Now reports have surfaced that the Maple Leafs are actively shopping Nylander.
Now multiple reports have surfaced linking William Nylander to one specific Western Conference team. According to Howard Berger, Nylander is a key component to a possible swap involving Erik Karlsson.
While Berger believes there is a possible deal between the Sharks and Leafs, Hockey Blogger Eklund shared the following information:
It was also reported that the Islanders offered a similar package to the Ottawa Senators for Alex DeBrincat, so it should come as no surprise that the Islanders would have pivoted towards Nylander.
With over a month until players report it will be very interesting to see which direction the Leafs go with William Nylander, but as of now a trade seems inevitable.
