In talking with the Athletic's Pierre Lebrun this week, Winnipeg Jets centre Paul Stastny made it clear that he will look to the free agent market this summer, rather than re-signing with the Jets.

Stastny did not totally rule out the possibility of re-signing with Winnipeg, but noted that he'd like to see where the number of prominent coaches available are hired, as well as a legitimate chance to compete for the Stanley Cup. With a coaching change, a poor record, and a seemingly disgruntled Mark Scheifele, it does not seem like the Jets will compete for the Cup this upcoming year.

Coming off a 21 goal, 45 point season in only 71 games, the veteran Stastny proved he can still produce at 36 years of age. Due to that age however, teams won't be likely to commit much money, and the term will almost certainly be one year.

With that in mind, a contending team looking for scoring depth in the bottom of their lineup would look to sign Stastny at a cheap deal. Those teams would add up to Colorado, Florida, Calgary, New York, Edmonton, or Tampa Bay being a fit for Stastny.
