A well-known and longtime member of the hockey media in Canada is in a life and death situation as he searches for a willing organ donor who is a match.
Mike Brophy spent 17 years with The Hockey News as a senior writer, as well as a hockey analyst with Sportsnet and CBC.
The 67-year-old was diagnosed with IGA Nephritis around 20 years ago, which he handled through proper diet and lifestyle.
However, the disease, which causes inflammation of the kidney and over time interferes with their ability to filter waste, has become much worse recently, and Brophy needs to find a kidney donor.
Brophy has type A blood. While family members have stepped up to and are willing to donate, he has yet to find a match.
Brophy has left the task in the capable hands of the Living Kidney Donor Program at the Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus.
If interested, you can reach them at 613-738-8403. Please mention Brophy's name when doing so. More information on donating a kidney can be found at TransplantAmbassadors.ca.
Our best wishes to Mike Brophy going forward and we sincerely hope he can find a donor.
