A very unlikely eastern conference team has emerged in the Nikolaj Ehlers sweepstakes, that would take him from the Eastern to the Eastern Conference.
The rumours surrounding Nikolaj Ehlers and the Winnipeg Jets have run rampant in recent weeks. It was originally thought that he would be dealt at some point during the NHL Entry Draft, but that didn't happen.
Now, according to Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News, the Carolina Hurricanes have emerged as the front runners for Ehlers after Jake Guentzel's departure.

The Hurricanes certainly have the chips to make this deal a reality, especially with Martin Necas on the block.
Ehlers, 28, played in all 82 games for the Winnipeg Jets last season. He had a very productive year, collecting 61 points including 25 goals and 36 assists.
Hockey News confirmed reports on Friday that the Carolina Hurricanes are very interested in Ehlers, which makes a lot of sense.
They also have to decide on restricted free agent Martin Necas, who filed for arbitration on Friday and has been heavily rumored to be on his way out.
