It was a scary scene last night in Cape Breton as the Eagles were hosting the Saint John Sea Dogs in QMJHL action. During the third period, Saint John head coach Travis Crickard collapsed while behind the bench during the game on Saturday night.

It was a frightening few minutes as medical personnel treated Crickard. The Sea Dogs players immediately left the area to clear space as Crickard was treated behind the bench for approximately 15 minutes.

The game was called with 19:06 remaining in the 3rd period, the score was 6-0 Eagles. The safety and concern for Crickard is all that mattered at the moment.

He was taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital shortly after that and team officials confirmed that Crickard was conscious when he was transported and alert and talking after he arrived. His vital signs were good.

Crickard was released from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital early Sunday.

The 37 year old, is in his second season with Sea Dogs. Crickard served as assistant coach during the Memorial Cup winning 2021-22 campaign.

Everyone at BladeofSteel wish Crickard a speedy recovery.
