Every year, the NHL awards the Jack-Adams Trophy to the best coach in the League. Back in 2018, Gerard Gallant earned it after a 51-24-7 season with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Less than two years later, the Golden Knights fired him, and Gallant found another job as the New York Rangers head coach.
Despite making the playoffs twice in two seasons, the Rangers fired him at the end of the 2022-23 season, and since then, the coach hasn't appeared behind a bench.
This could all change sooner than later.
However, another tournament is set to happen in 2025: the Spengler Cup.
The insider Pierre LeBrun revealed in a post on X that while nothing's official, it appears that Gerard Gallant will be Team Canada's head coach for that tournament.
He added that Joe Thornton and Brad Pascall will be managing the team.
In LeBrun's words:
Team Canada hasn't won a Spengler Cup since 2019. In its history, the country won 16 titles, including three consecutive between 2015 and 2017.
If he manages to get Team Canada back on the podium, for the first time in five years, it could lead to Gallant's return to the NHL.
Lately, many rumors circulated about Gallant joining the Montreal Canadiens' coaching staff. Many fans would love to see Gallant, who worked in Montreal as an assistant coach between 2012 and 2014, lend a hand to Martin St. Louis, one of the most inexperienced coaches in the League.
If LeBrun's speculations become reality, Gallant will have a great opportunity to impress the hockey world and force an NHL team to hire him.
