As we inch closer to the 2024-25 season, teams around the National Hockey League continue to prepare their respective rosters for opening night and in order to assign some of those players to the minors, they need to go through waivers.
This weekend was quite busy on the waiver wire, with a total of 47 placed by their respective teams on Saturday and Sunday. As is the case every year, the waiver wire is always quite busy until the NHL opening night roster submission deadline, which is set for Monday, October 7th at 5 pm ET.
On Monday afternoon, a total of 12 players were placed on the waiver wire for the purpose of being assigned to the American Hockey League in time for their training camps, which get underway early this week. Among those on the wire today is 2012 first-rounder Brendan Gaunce and recently signed St. Louis Blues forward Nikita Alexandrov..
Jacob McDonald (Colorado Avalanche)
Cam Dineen (Edmonton Oilers)
Connor Carrick (Edmonton OIlers)
Justin Bailey (San Jose Sharks)
Jimmy Schuldt (San Jose Sharks)
Jeff Malott (Los Angeles Kings)
Nikita Alexandrov (St. Louis Blues)
Travis Boyd (Minnesota Wild)
Brendan Gaunce (Minnesota Wild)
Devin Shore (Minnesota Wild)
Travis Barron (Utah Hockey Club)
Kevin Connauton (Utah Hockey Club)
It's going to be busy on the wire as the week goes on and for Monday's crop of players on waivers, we'll have to wait until Tuesday at 2 pm ET to see if anyone is claimed or if they'll be assigned to the American Hockey League. The San Jose Sharks get the first crack at making a waiver claim as they finished last in the NHL in the 2023-24 season. They'll get first dibs on waiver claims until November 1st.
