Scott Masters, who held roles with several NHL organizations throughout the years as a video coach and pro scout, and passed away at the young age of 46

Some sad news to pass along out of the NHL. A former video coach and pro scout who worked for several NHL organizations, has passed away at just 46 years of age.

"RIP to former Avs video coach Scott Masters. Scott also worked in the Florida, St. Louis and Montreal organizations."

Masters worked in the NHL from 2001 to 2019. From his start to 2013, Masters was a video coach with the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, and Florida Panthers. Masters was then hired by the Montreal Canadiens as a pro scout for the organization, where he was until 2019. On a recent podcast, Masters praised current St. Louis Blues General Manager and President of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong as being a big factor in his career.

"He believed in pro scouts in the field, he believed in amateur scouts in the field and he also believed in analytics. Analytics were becoming big at that time and he also loved scouting video for pros and trades and free agency. He gave me that opportunity to do some of that scouting via video on the pro level and with technology I could do so much more."

Before getting into the NHL, Masters was involved with college hockey as a coach and scout. There is no word on his cause of death. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Scott Masters.
