This is the kind of thing you hate to hear about. While complete details are still somewhat sketchy, a high school hockey player was hospitalized Friday after suffering what are being described as life-threatening injuries during a game.

A post on Facebook confirms a player was injured during a game between the Traverse City West Titans and the Cadillac Vikings in Michigan.

"Hello hockey families, not to just our Cadillac teams, but all of our teams in Northern Michigan and beyond.

As Cadillac High School hosted Traverse City West at The Wex, a West player sustained an extremely life threatening injury. Something you never want to see.

I'm asking all of our hockey family and community, no matter where you live or who you play for, to wrap your arms around TC West's #19. Keep him and his family in your hearts and your prayers. I'm told the prognosis for his recovery is favorable. In the meantime he is still in the skilled hands of doctors at DeVos."

A later post from the school itself confirmed the player underwent surgery on both his spine and neck.

"As many of you know Brady was injured during his hockey game on Friday night in Cadillac and is recovering from a spine and neck injury at Helen Devos. Brady had surgery yesterday and will be in a halo for several weeks but is thankfully on his way to a full recovery."

It's not clear if a collision during the game caused the injuries, or if something else was responsible. In the meantime, our thoughts are with Brady and his family at this difficult time.
