An insider has revealed how much money New York Rangers star goaltender Igor Shesterkin is seeking on his next contract.
The New York Rangers and goaltender Igor Shesterkin appear to be at a standstill when it comes to negotiating a new contract. With that being the case, it could have everything to do with how much he wants per year on a new deal.
According to Casey Ditzel of ESPN, Shesterkin is looking for a deal that would see him make 12 million dollars per season, which would make him the highest paid goaltender in league history.
Shesterkin, 28, played in 55 games for the Rangers last season collecting a record of 36-17-2 with 4 shutouts, a 2.58 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
On the surface, the above numbers seems pretty solid, but for a goaltender like Shesterkin, he's coming off of one of the worst statistical seasons of his career. Last year was a career low in save percentage and his second highest goals against average.
Shesterkin certainly took a step back last season. I'm not saying he can't bounce back, but do you give a goaltender coming off of one of his worst seasons in the NHL a massive, recording breaking contract for goaltenders? The answer to that is no.
