The Stanley Cup playoffs Have always been must watch TV, but in recent years, the playoffs have struggled to gain a lot of viewership. However, with Canadian teams going so far and the Edmonton Oilers being in the Stanley Cup Final, which begins on Saturday viewership has never been better.
According to the Hockey News, the third round of the Stanley Cup playoffs Is the most watched playoffs across the US since 1996. It is also the most watched playoffs in North America since 2018.
One could make the argument that the Edmonton Oilers making it to the Stanley Cup inal is one of the reasons behind the uptick and viewership especially in Canada but for it to be the most watched playoffs in the US in 28 years is truly remarkable as well.
Whether it's been because the games are entertaining or controversial, there certainly been a little something for every fan that has tuned into the playoffs this year.
We have to see if this trend continues, but for the National Hockey League who has been struggling with leadership in recent years, this is amazing to see.
