In the wake of the senseless tragedy that took the lives of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, teams across North America paid tribute to the pair before games recently. Not only did this occur but on top of growing memorials outside many hockey arenas across North America and the world a growing tribute in front of Hollydell Ice Arena where the Gaudreau's played hockey has been created as well. While Johnny moved on to play hockey in the National Hockey League, Matthew began coaching at the rink where the two grew up playing, four years ago.
Before the New York Yankees game Friday night against the St Louis Cardinals a tribute was held as the brothers were remembered at the Yankee Stadium.
At Citizens Bank Ballpark, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, a moment of silence was observed to remember the two who were killed when an impaired driver drove into them while the two were riding bicycles home from a rehearsal dinner for their sister who was supposed to get married Saturday.
College football offered a moment of silence before the Ohio State Buckeyes home opener as they welcomed Akron in the first game of the season for both schools.
It is heartwarming to see many different teams, organizations and sports honour the Gaudreau brothers through this senseless tragedy. While sports are minor in the grand scheme of life, humanity continues to play an important role in how we navigate through difficult times.
