For years now, it appears as though Hockey Canada has been looking to make a move away from the culture that has landed them in very hot water in many different instances, especially at the junior level.
While that's a very positive thing for the most part, the Canadian Hockey League, comprised of the WHL, QMJHL and the OHL has come under quite a bit of scrutiny for just how far they've taken it.
Now, another suspension has officially been announced, with 17-year old defenseman Evan Passmore of the Barrie Colts officially set to miss five games for bullying on the ice.
According to the press release, Passmore has been suspended for bullying, which is classified as the following by the league:
It's unclear exactly what the 17-year old did to cause the suspension during the 8-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves, but a further two suspensions were handed out from the game, which certainly isn't a great look for the culture around the OHL.
In 16 games this season, Passmore has tallied just 2 goals and 2 points, so while he may not be missed as a player, it's clear that there could be a culture issue remaining in the league.
All we know for now though is that he will serve a five-game suspension for what the league considers bullying, and in the near future, we may find out exactly what happened and why he did what he did.
