Last night during game 3 between the Panthers and Rangers Trouba got away with a predatory hit on Rodrigues, after Paul Maurice chose his words carefully.

This hit on from Jacob Trouba on Evan Rodrigues has the hockey world divided. Some think it should've been a major while others think Rodrigues dove, whatever your stance I think we can all agree that Panthers head coach said something really surprising after the game.

According to Sportsnet, Paul Maurice took the road no one expected after the game, opting to avoid a fine or other penalties from the National Hockey League while still giving a subtle hint that what he wanted to say would get him in trouble; take a look.

When asked about his thoughts on the hit, Maurice let out a big sigh said:

I think, I think I've got enough on my plate. I'm not going to get into any refereeing or player safety tonight, I'll stick with the coaching

You could tell Maurice had more to say on the topic, but in the end he opted to not say something that would get him in trouble with the league.

The way the NHL has effectively silenced players and coaches from saying anything contrary to the officiating being good in a given game is sad. The standard has gone down hill in recent years, fans coaches and players have all seen it and yet, no one is allowed to say it out loud without a fear of being fined.

It's truly a sad state the NHL is in.
