A PWHL team has been accused of bribing Daryl Watts to take less money. This isn't a good look for a professional hockey league that is just beginning.

The PWHL is the new professional women's league and they haven't been without their fair share of controversy through their inaugural season. Now, they're in the news for another controversy.

According to Alex Adams of the Hockey News, PWHL Toronto, head coach Troy Ryan and newest signee Daryl Watts are under the microscope after Ryan has been accused of bribing Watts to take less money with a National Team incentive.

Re: Daryl Watts Signing in Toronto

Toronto's Gina Kingsbury and Troy Ryan are the GM/Coach of Hockey Canada/TOR. Watts has never played for Canada.

She reportedly turned down more money from other teams.

Same day she signs, she is part of an invitee list to play for Canada.
That seems like a clear potential for a conflict of interest.

Ryan who as previously mentioned is also the head coach of the Canadian National Women's team and Gina Kingsbury who is the general manager in Toronto and also with Canada convinced Watts to sign for less in Toronto in exchange for a National Team invite.

If this is indeed why Watts was persuaded to sign in Toronto, then this is definitely a conflict of interest. Never mind the fact that Watts hasn't been on the Canadian Women's National Team radar before signing in Toronto today and the optics don't look too good.
