Ron MacLean was once considered a part of many Canadians Saturday nights. As a member of the Hockey Night in Canada panel, he along with Don Cherry were a part of nearly everyone's Saturday ritual. That was until an on-air comment by Cherry ended his career. At the time many assumed MacLean would fall on the sword with his best friend the way Cherry had for him before.
That wasn't the case and MacLean hasn't been viewed the same since. Multiple incidents over the years have led to fans calling for MacLean's resignation, none of which have ever been successful. MacLean has spent over 40 years around the sport and knows the in and outs of most things, that includes unwritten rules.
While most fans know that when you're in a locker room, you should never step on a team's emblem on the floor. And while some believe these unwritten rules don't need to be followed, others, hold them near and dear to their heart. For Kevin Bieksa that was evident last night.
As MacLean completed a segment, he begins to take the Edmonton Oilers jersey that he is holding and sets it directly on the floor. Bieksa, who was sitting beside him at the time, immediately looks stunned by the decision. Bieksa looks directly at MacLean and tells him, "you can't just throw a jersey on the floor."
Someone else on the broadcast panel can be heard stating, "that's a fine".
Fans immediately began to react exactly how you might think, and as usual, people were unhappy with MacLean and his decision.
So the question remains, is this reaction appropriate or are fans just overreacting at the actions of someone they dislike?
