In addition to the Los Angeles Kings sending Caleb Jones to the AHL, the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks made the forwards Givani Smith and Joey Anderson available to all 32 NHL teams.
Elliotte Friedman confirmed the news with the following post on X:
These three players all had limited impacts for their team this season, and are likely to get better conditions in the AHL, or with another NHL organization.
Let's take a look at each of them individually.
Jones, 27, was drafted 117th in 2015 by the Edmonton Oilers. He took part in 247 games in his career for the Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, and Los Angeles Kings. This season with the Kings, he was limited to five games and didn't score a point.
Smith, the Detroit Red Wings' 46th overall pick in 2016, played only six games with the San Jose Sharks this season. In his career, he played 161 games in the NHL for the Red Wings, Florida Panthers, and Sharks.
As for Anderson, the 26-year-old Chicago Blackhawks forward scored one point in 12 games this season. He was drafted 73rd overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2016 and played 163 career games in the NHL for the Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Blackhawks.
Considering their underwhelming performances this season, it would be surprising to see a team claiming him. After years in the NHL system, they haven't been able to prove they were ready to become true full-time NHLers.
An update on their status will be made tomorrow at 2 pm. Stay tuned to learn the latest developments from the NHL waiver wire.
