Tij Iginla, the first ever draft pick of the Utah Hockey Club, has signed his entry-level deal and is ready to make the jump to the National Hockey League
For the first time since the 2016-17 season, there will be an Iginla playing in the NHL. The Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC) has announced the team has signed their first ever draft pick, Tij Iginla, to an entry level contract.
Tij Iginla is, of course, the son of Jarome Iginla, who played close to 1600 NHL regular season games throughout his 22 year NHL career. Tij Iginla appears ready to follow in his father's footsteps and make an impact in the NHL.
"The 6-foot, 192-pound Iginla registered 47-37-84 and was plus-17 in 64 games with Kelowna (WHL) last season, leading the team in goals and ranking second in scoring. Iginla also recorded 9-6-15 in 11 playoff games.
The Lake Country, British Columbia native tallied 6-12-18 in 48 games with Seattle (WHL) in 2022-23 helping the club win the WHL championship. In Seattle, Iginla played alongside current Utah forward Dylan Guenther and was one of three 16-year olds to play with Seattle that season." According to Puckpedia, Iginla's ELC will pay him $887,500 in salary for each of his first three years. There is a signing bonus, as well as a chance to earn more money in performance bonuses.
"The #UtahHC signed '24 #6 pick 17 y/o F Tij Iginla to 3 year Entry Level

Iginla was drafted sixth overall by Utah HC at the most recent NHL draft. In addition to his championship with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 2022-23, Iginla also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championship. Iginla had seven goals and seven assists in six games with the team, including a three point performance in the gold medal game.
