The NHL season is in full swing already, with teams making big statements early in the regular season, and after a poor performance, we've already seen a top notch goaltender placed on waivers. On Sunday, the Detroit Red Wings shocked the NHL world when they placed veteran Ville Husso on waivers after just one start, with the 29-year old set to earn $4.75 million during this season.
In one start this year, Husso allowed four goals on just 14 shots against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and after Cam Talbot followed that up with a 42 save shutout against Nashville, it's safe to say that the team have found their true No. 1.
The only other player joining him on waivers on Sunday is young forward Alex Barre-Boulet of the Montreal Canadiens, who has gone scoreless in two games for the team this year, with Montreal hoping he clears so he can play a huge role for the Laval Rocket.
At 27-years of age, the center has 70 games of NHL experience under his belt, but with this young Canadiens team being full of talent down the middle, it makes sense for them to send him back to the AHL with no way for him into this lineup.
With the NHL season rolling, it's unlikely that we'll see loaded waiver wire days like we did over the past few weeks, but with the names becoming more and more interesting, especially Husso, who could draw interest from the likes of Colorado and Edmonton, expect to see more consistent claims on these players moving forward.
