Vancouver Canucks Dakota Joshua gets a massive payday ahead of free agency
Dakota Joshua was scheduled to become one of the most sought after free agents on July 1st, instead he's staying put on a massive extension.
The Vancouver Canucks have managed to do some last minute housekeeping ahead of free agency. With fears that they would lose both Nikita Zadorov and Dakota Joshua, the team utilize some of their newfound cap space to retain the forward. After completing a trade yesterday with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Canucks circle back to their free agents.
The Canucks were able to come to an agreement according to Rick Dhaliwal:
Dakota Joshua back with the Canucks.
4 years and 3.2 million a year.
Great signing, Rick Tochett will be happy
Joshua, a native of Dearborn, Michigan, had the best season of his NHL career so far in 2023-24 with the Vancouver Canucks. In 63 games, Joshua had 32 points (18 goals, 14 assists), 60 penalty minutes and was a plus-19. During the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 28-year-old took his game to another level, putting up eight points (four goals, four assists) in 13 games.
This deal goes a long way to helping set the forward market for middle six forwards but also keeps an important member of the Canucks in Vancouver.
