The Vancouver Canucks have officially announced the hiring of Manny Malhotra from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Change was inevitable this season for the Toronto Maple Leafs and multiple reports have surfaced that after hiring veteran coach Craig Berube, the Maple Leafs weren't done revamping their coaching staff. Today it became official that Toronto assistant coach Manny Malhotra was moving on from the franchise.

The news came from the Vancouver Canucks X account where they shared the following news.

General Manager Patrik Allvin announces that Manny Malhotra has been hired as the new head coach of the Abbotsford Canucks.

Malhotra issued the following statement:

«Being able to return the to the Vancouver Canucks organization is an incredible opportunity for both me and my family,» said Malhotra. «Getting the chance to help develop the next wave of young talent is an honour and a privilege. We have a lot of good prospects in the group, and I can't wait to get started on the ice. I would like to thank the Toronto Maple Leafs as well for providing me the opportunity to work with them the past four years.»

During his time in Toronto, Malhotra worked on both the power play and the penalty kill before specializing in face-offs last season. This will be his first professional head coaching job and gives him the opportunity to return to a franchise where he established the most success in his career.

Congratulations Manny.
