Over the past few days, we've been stunned at the names placed on waivers, most notably with Donte Fabbro from the Nashville Predators, and now we've had some more shock names. On Monday, the Colorado Avalanche waived veteran Kaapo Kahkonen, and just weeks after being waived by the Winnipeg Jets, he returns to the league leading Jets.
In more shocking news, Elliotte Friedman has now reported that James Reimer will be placed on waivers on Tuesday after a very below-average start to the 202425 campaign with the Anaheim Ducks.
In just two appearances this season, Reimer has posted an .884 save percentage alongside a 4.50 GAA, and with John Gibson and Lukas Dostal faring much better, this move was likely an obvious one in Anaheim. At 36-years of age, the controversial Reimer brings plenty of experience to the table, playing in 503 games across his NHL career, and with many teams out there needing veteran help in net, he'll draw plenty of interest.
The obvious teams to place a claim on Reimer would be Colorado and Edmonton given their early season struggles, but with the baggage that Reimer brings, it's unclear if any team will be looking to give him a chance.
Alongside Reimer on waivers was also Riley Stillman, a 26-year old defenseman who hasn't seen much ice time this season, but with the Hurricanes looking to keep depth in the organization, they'll be hoping that he clears. In further waiver news, both Matt Benning and Andreas Athanasiou both cleared waivers, making this one of the busiest days we've seen on waivers since the regular season began.
