Breaking News - NHL Department of Player Safety announces punishment for Toronto Maple Leafs player after Game 3
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning faced off last night in a heated game 3 of their Atlantic division series. The game was highlighted by multiple fights, physical plays and ultimately a thrilling overtime finish. The Maple Leafs won the game 4-3 and took a 2-1 series lead.
Today the NHL Department of Player Safety announced it had issued a fine to Sam Lafferty after a 2nd period cross check rode up the arm of Ross Colton and into his face.
Toronto's Sam Lafferty has been fined $3,108.11, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking against Tampa Bay's Ross Colton.
While the play by Lafferty wasn't intentional it definitely warranted a penalty, but a fine seems a bit excessive especially in a game which saw Pat Maroon throw a dangerous hit from behind on Jake McCabe in overtime.
Game 4 goes Monday night in Tampa.
