NHL announces referees for Conference Finals, proving once again they don't care about performance
The Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win in sports. With the playoffs down to the Final Four teams, you'd expect to see the NHL going down to their best referees. Instead the NHL has continued with the tradition of keeping only their biggest names as part of the Conference Finals.
After multiple instances of mistakes throughout the playoffs many expected Wes McCauley to find himself without a seat at the table. However the NHL continues to value his theatrics over his ability to perform their job. Yesterday the league announced the list of officials who would see action during the conference finals.
The NHL continues to send out the same referees year after year proving ability isn't as important as name recognition. I'll echo this thought once again, but when fans know the name of referees it's not because they've done a good job and with the NHL that will continue to be the case.
