With the Toronto Maple Leafs leading big in the 3rd period things took a turn for the physical. The Lightning made it clear that they had every intent of showing the Maple Leafs that they weren't going anywhere. As time ticked off the clock the Lightning made it clear they were going to take a pound of flesh.

That began with Tanner Jeannot dropping the gloves with Luke Schenn. The fight set off a chain reaction of events. As Jeannot entered the penalty box a fan tried to climb the glass to get into the box with him, shades of an incident involving Maple Leafs legend Tie Domi, in a penalty box with a Philadelphia Flyers fan.

Jeannot handled the incident without issue. Shortly after Patrick Maroon and Corey Perry both took penalties for the Lightning and were sent to the box where the shenanigans continued. Unfortunately Maroon didn't handle the incident as well as Jeannot. Luckily for Maroon, Perry was in the box and had the intelligence to stop Maroon from committing what would have been an incredibly stupid and selfish act.

Corey Perry and Patrick Maroon were very upset at the rowdy fans behind them. Perry actually stopped Maroon from spearing a fan over the glass. Fans enjoyed his removal from the game.

Luckily for Maroon that Perry was able to intervene in this situation because this would have certainly resulted in a lengthy suspension for Maroon. It's odd of all places in the NHL to see fans in Toronto showing this sort of fire towards another team. Despite all the shots we take at the Toronto crowd, Scotiabank Place was absolutely rocking last night.
