Insider reveals the heartbreaking reason Patrice Bergeron insisted on playing in Boston Bruins final regular season game
As the Captain of one of the original six franchises whether it's fair or not, you always have a microscope on you at all times. This becomes magnified when the team you play for is chasing history to have the most wins in a National Hockey League season.
Recent reports surfaced that Patrice Bergeron, from L'Ancienne Quebec wanted to play in front of his father for possibly the last time while on a visit to Montreal as his father is battling cancer. Furthermore, after he was injured during the game and he wanted to go back out after initially leaving.
Bergeron has always been a team first guy and doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who would jeopardize his teams success or his ability to play long term unless he absolutely felt strongly about participating in what essentially was a nothing game for the Bruins.
It's important to understand that these hockey players we put so much pressure on are humans first and their job although important is secondary in the grand scheme of life. While it was the right decision to have him sit, this specific moment in his life may weigh on him for a very long time moving forward depending on the prognosis of his father's illness.
