The Toronto Maple Leafs won the opening faceoff and attempted to get the puck deep into the Florida Panthers zone to begin the second period. The puck turned around and headed back up ice and unfortunately for the Maple Leafs the play ended in what could be considered the worst case scenario.

The Panthers were able to generate a scoring chance, but a diving play by Luke Schenn kept the puck out of the Maple Leafs net. However, as Schenn dove to make the play he slide hard across the fresh ice and collided hard with goaltender Ilya Samsonov. Samsonov appeared to collide hard with Schenn's shoulder before slamming even harder into this own goal post. Samsonov remained motionless on the ice while being tended to by team medical staff.

Samsonov left the game and wouldn't return. After the game Sheldon Keefe made it clear that things didn't look good, but stressed he didn't have any update on his goaltender. However, today Keefe was finally able to provide some sort of update on his starter.

Ilya Samsonov is "feeling better today," according to Sheldon Keefe. Not yet clear if he's a possibility for Game 4.

After last night's game Keefe mentioned that Matt Murray had been cleared to play and could be an option for the Maple Leafs. If Samsonov is good to go the Leafs will have the option to go with Joseph Woll, Matt Murray or Ilya Samsonov.
