Obviously, the trade didn't go through, and the Penguins dodged a major bullet here. How short sighted can Ron Hextall and the Penguins organization be? Mortgaging future first round picks is only going to stunt the development of this franchise. Not only was the price steep to acquire Miller, his newly signed eight million dollar per season contract is a lot to take on. Also, Miller's antics in Vancouver have made his newly signed deal look like it was a big mistake.
The Penguins continue to be stubborn and insistent that they can compete for the Stanley Cup when in fact their best seasons are well behind them. They will be lucky to go beyond the first round in an Eastern Conference that is stacked with legitimate Stanley Cup contenders.
If Hextall sincerely entertained the Miller trade offer, Penguins fans should be extremely concerned over the direction that Hextall could take this team. Can you blame Penguins fans for wanting to run Hextall out of town? I'd want him gone too. At this point, let Malkin, Crosby, and Letang finish their careers in Pittsburgh and start stocking the organization with future young players. Any attempt to try and win the Stanley Cup is futile. As far as Hextall goes, he has to be on thin ice for his questionable thinking.
