The Minnesota Wild have acquired a 29-year-old defenceman from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a minor trade that sees a defender change teams.
The Minnesota Wild and Pittsburgh Penguins have come together to complete a trade on Thursday afternoon.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Minnesota Wild announced that they've acquired 29-year-old defenceman Will Butcher from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Maxim Cajkovic.
Butcher, a native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin was signed by the Penguins to a one-year contract in July 2023, but never appeared in a game for them at the NHL level. In 14 games for their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Butcher had seven points (three goals, four assists), six penalty minutes and was a plus-one.
Cajkovic, 23, spent time in the AHL and ECHL with the Wild organization this season, putting up three points in five games for the Iowa Wild and 18 points in 20 games for the Iowa Heartlanders.
