NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed last night that Craig Conroy and the Calgary Flames may be looking to make a trade after an unexpected start to the season.

The Flames have come out of the gates firing on all cylinders this year as they have put together four consecutive wins to lead the Pacific division. They have had a couple of games against easier opponents in the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers, but they also have wins against the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers, two teams that are expected to be very good this season. Apparently, this has lead to a lot of optimism in the team's front office, potentially even leading to the team buying to improve their odds at an unexpected playoff run. Frank Seravalli says that Craig Conroy is exploring the options on the center market as the moment.

"Not usually much trade activity to start a season, but I'm told Flames GM Craig Conroy has been working the phones in recent days to try and find a center to add to the Calgary Flames in their middle six, preferably someone who fits their age scheme, preferably, in a perfect world, a right shooting center."

It should be extremely interesting to see what unfolds next out of this situation. Just a couple of days ago, virtually half the NHL has scouts at the LA Kings Toronto Maple Leafs matchup. Did the Flames have representatives at that game? Based on this piece from Seravalli, that would seem very likely, although both teams could prove to be difficult trade partners as the Kings are a division rival and the Leafs have former Flames GM Brad Treliving running the team now. Meanwhile, Calgary sprts reporter Mike Gould suggested Sabres center Dylan Cousins as a possible option.

With this new news, it should be very interesting to watch Calgary for the remainder of the season. How long will they be able to maintain their current pace? Obviously they are not going to be undefeated all year, but can they actually maintain a winning record? Could they even get back into the playoffs after selling last season? Furthermore, how will the previous trade rumors surrounding the team change? Earlier this month, the Flames were rumored to be shopping Rasmus Andersson but if this continues will they still go through with that plan? Fellow defenseman Mackenzie Weegar is ignoring the noise and focusing on the next game.

Regardless of what happens next, the Flames have become arguably the most fascinating team in the league to watch. With every win their season only becomes even more interesting. Be sure to tune in tomorrow night as they take on the Seattle Kraken, looking to extend their undefeated streak.
