The National Hockey league's trade deadline is just over 2 weeks away. But tonight the Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins got a head start making the first trade. The Columbus Blue Jackets announced the deal on their X account.

The deal comes just days after the Blue Jackets fired former general manager Jarmo Kekalanien and replaced him a team President John Davidson. The details of the deal are as follows.

We have acquired F Alex Nylander and a conditional 2026 6th round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for F Emil Bemstrom

For Nylander this is another fresh start after stints in Buffalo, Chicago and Pittsburgh. This season Bemstrom has 11 points in 32 games in a bottom line role.
