One of the main reasons for this had to do with the fact that in order to assign Cayden Primeau to the American Hockey League's Laval Rocket, he needed to clear waivers, something the Canadiens management staff doesn't think will happen.
Nearly a month into the season, the Canadiens have used all three goaltenders, with Jake Allen appearing in five games, Samuel Montembeault also has played five games, while Cayden Primeau has started only once. At some point in the near future, the Canadiens will need to address their goaltending situation as it's not ideal to have Cayden Primeau sitting in the press box every night and not playing.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen has drawn interest from a pair of Western Conference teams - the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings.
With the way the Edmonton Oilers have played so far this season, it might be a good idea to scour the goaltending market and Jake Allen would be a good fit for the Alberta club. While their struggles this season aren't solely on Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner, both need to be better in the next couple of weeks to avoid things spiraling out of control in Oil Country.
For the Los Angeles Kings, they're off to a great start to their season, sitting in third in the Pacific Division with a 7-2-2 record. Cam Talbot has been strong between the pipes for the Kings, sporting a 2.14 goals against average and is coming off a 24-save shutout against the Philadelphia Flyers. Talbot and Jake Allen could form a solid veteran tandem for a Kings team looking to take a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Allen, 33, is in the first year of a two-year extension he signed back in October 2022, which sees him earn $3.85 million per season. Allen's contract also includes a modified no-trade clause with a seven-team no trade list this season and a three-team no-trade list in 2024-25.
