Yesterday, the Edmonton Oilers were in Toronto to face the Maple Leafs. Connor McDavid and his teammates ended up losing the game 4-3 in overtime, but they lost much more than the two-point, as Darnell Nurse had to leave the ice following a dangerous hit from Ryan Reaves.
Reaves, renowned for his physical style, came up to Nurse who was controlling the puck in his zone, and hit him dangerously with his shoulder.
After the hit, Nurse fell on the ice, where he remained for a while before being assisted by the medical unit. He ended up being helped off the ice by his teammates, and never returned to the game.
As for Reaves, he received a match penalty and will face consequences from the NHL's Department of Player Safety.

After the game, the insider Elliotte Friedman shared interesting details on the situation.
He revealed that Reaves went to the Oilers locker room to apologize face-to-face during the third period of the game.
He also stated that no updates were shared by the Oilers regarding Nurse's health after the game. However, he reported that the player was seen joking around with the staff.
Here's what he posted on X:
Reaves didn't have to go apologize to Nurse. This classy gesture shows that Reaves didn't want to injure his opponent on purpose. It truly seemed like it all happened in the heat of the moment.
However, that shouldn't stop Player Safety from punishing Reaves for his hit.
Updates will follow.
