After starting a great career in Toronto, Jack Campbell moved to the Edmonton Oilers on a high profile deal, but unfortunately, he struggled mightily there, spending the majority of his two years in the AHL.
Unsurprisingly, the Oilers were quick to move on from Campbell this past off-season, landing him in Detroit as a free agent, with many believing he'd have a shot to turn his career around.
Things in Detroit haven't gone smoothly either unfortunately, as Campbell was sent to the NHLPA's Player Assistance Program, and now shortly after leaving, he has officially been waived by the team.
With the duo of Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon playing well, this move made complete sense for the Red Wings, as Campbell just isn't a better goaltender than either of those players at this point in time.
In the last two NHL seasons of his career, Campbell posted a save percentage at .880, and given that Talbon, Lyon and even Ville Husso have played better than that this season, there's no room for him in the current team.
At his current deal, there's a chance a rival team like the Colorado Avalanche could take a look at Campbell, but given his struggles consistently over the past two season in the NHL, it's unlikely that anyone will take that chance on him.
This means that he'll be sent to the AHL where he will look to turn his career around after posting solid numbers for the Bakersfield Condors a year ago, but as of right now, things aren't looking great for the 32-year old.
