Fans calling for the NHL to investigate the Toronto Maple Leafs

When the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Matt Murray last summer, fans around the National Hockey League knew they were acquiring a human bandaid, but I don't think they knew how bad it would be.

Yesterday, the Leafs placed Murray on long term injured reserve and outcry from fans around the league was justifiably upset at Toronto's use of LTIR as a form of cap circumvention; take a look.

This should be immediately investigated. He was ready to go in the playoffs and this reeks of cap circumvention.

So let me get this straight, Matt Murray was declared 'healthy' by the Leafs during the playoffs, but when the off-season hits and suddenly they've got no cap space, he's suddenly so hurt he can't play for the entire season?

Such nonsense. The league has to fix this loophole.

Fans are right to be upset and to even call for the league to investigate the Leafs to some degree, but this sort of thing happens around the league every year, whether it be the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights or other teams around the league.

Whatever the case may be, in this situation, not only did Toronto look at buying out Matt Murray, (but couldn't because he's not fit to play), but Murray came to the Leafs and said he couldn't play, which handcuffed them and made them use LTIR
