Flyers Defenceman Hearing His Name In Rumors That Won't Go Away
Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Travis Sanheim found his name in trade rumors early in the offseason. It was particularly heavy before his no-trade clause kicked in. Since that day has passed, Sanheim now has final sign off on any trade.
The 27 year old signed an eight-year, $50 million contract last October. Sanheim had an up and down season for a not so great Flyers team. His offence production took a dip compared to previous years but he still put up 7 goals and 23 points in 81 games.
The Edmonton Oilers have been looking to bolster their blueline this offseason but so far have come up unsuccessful. Hockey Insider Eklund believes Sanheim could still be traded before the season begins and Edmonton would really like to have him.
The Oilers have the picks to make a deal work but in a salary cap world the money would need to equal. To pile on top, Sanheim would need to sign off on the deal.
Anything is possible. Sanheim would have the opportunity to play with the two best players in the world, a way better chance at a Stanley Cup, and doing this in his prime. He would also get to escape head coach John Tortorella. Edmonton doesn't sound so bad.
