Insider links Patrick Kane to another Atlantic Division team
Unrestricted free agent forward Patrick Kane continues to recover from off-season hip surgery but is nearing a return to the National Hockey League.
Many expect Kane to sign with an NHL organization at some point in November with the New York Rangers and his hometown Buffalo Sabres among the teams mentioned as potential landing spots for the three-time Stanley Cup champion.
On Tuesday, Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff linked Patrick Kane to another Atlantic Division franchise - the Detroit Red Wings.
"I'll toss you a third team. This is by no means an exhaustive list; these are not the only teams on Kane's radar. I'll give you another thought that those close to him have noticed he's been keeping an eye on. That's the Detroit Red Wings. Certainly, a surprise to me when I first heard it, but I have to tell you that the idea of getting Kane and Alex DeBrincat relinked has stood out to many. But the Red Wings are another team; let's see how this season develops before we make any judgments." Seravalli said. Kane, 34, had a pretty good season in 2022-23 when considering he was dealing with a significant hip issue. In 73 games between the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers, Kane had 57 points (21 goals, 36 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-22.
There won't be a shortage of teams lining up to sign the former Hart Trophy winner and 14-time 20+ goal scorer. Kane still has plenty left in the tank and would be a solid addition to a team's middle-six forward group and would likely see powerplay time as well.
