Massive Changes Ahead in Boston? Two Bruins Forwards Identified as Prime Trade Assets
Elliotte Friedman identified two Bruins forwards as prime trade assets amid looming rumors of massive changes in Boston.
The Bruins shocked the hockey world earlier this week when they announced the firing of head coach Jim Montgomery.
Despite Boston's tough season start, many experts believed Montgomery had more time to turn things around, considering his 120-41-23 record with the franchise.
Unfortunately for him, Don Sweeney decided to make the move and named Joe Sacco as interim head coach.
Sweeney was clear when he announced the news: more changes would come if the team's struggles continued.
In the aftermath of that decision, many hockey analysts shared their take on what could change in the Bruins organization.
While some believe key players such as Marchand could be traded, others believe depth forwards could be targeted as trade assets.
That's the case for Elliotte Friedman.
In the latest written edition of 32 Thoughts, the insider stated that Trent Frederic and Morgan Geekie could both end up on the trade block.
In Friedman's words:
"It's not a surprise, but we're already hearing that forwards with «an edge» will be coveted by contenders. So, when the Bruins are being scouted, that's Trent Frederic.
Obviously, his as-yet-undetermined contract status looms large.
There was some Morgan Geekie talk, but that may have been when he was out of the lineup. Teams generally understand that if someone in the final season of his contract is not in their plans, they should find that player another situation."
Both players are set to be free agents next season, and as Friedman mentioned, it only makes sense to trade them if they aren't in the team's long-term plans.
With the Bruins reportedly seeking a top-six forward on the market, parting ways with either Frederic or Geekie seems inevitable.
It'll be interesting to see how the Bruins perform on the ice, especially tonight against their division rivals, the Detroit Red Wings.
This season, Geekie, 26, has scored one goal and three assists in 16 games. As for Frederic, he tallies six points, including three goals.
