Junior B player suspended after delivering dangerous check that causes serious head injury
Players are taught from a very early age to show each other respect. This includes avoiding dangerous plays that could result in serious injury. Hockey Canada even went as far as to put stop signs on the back of youth uniforms to reminder players not to deliver hits.
Unfortunately for a Junior B player, Kurtis Labant of the St. Paul Canadiens didn't take that information. As Labant attempts to defend he dangerously shoves Joel Webb. Webb falls to the ice and his driven hard head and neck first into the boards.
On the play Webb was knocked unconscious and shared this in his own words.
I was knocked out the other night on a ruthless hit, I have been sitting in a dark room since. I have not left my house. This player is a repeat offender and only received a 3-4 game suspension. Players get suspended more for saying bad words. Do feelings matter more than health?
This is pathetic @neajbhl people like this should not be allowed to play hockey. It puts everyone on the ice in danger when someone like that is allowed to play. Disgusting.
@HockeyAlberta do something about this. Looks great on you when you let someone continuously does shit like this with minimal repercussions
Webb goes onto point out this isn't Labant's first infraction. Labant received a 3 game suspension for the hit.
