Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg announces retirement from hockey
After parts of 13 seasons in the National Hockey League, Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg has decided he will retire at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
The news of Silfverberg's retirement was made official by the Anaheim Ducks on social media.
"A special player and humble leader in our locker room and community throughout his 11 seasons in Anaheim.
Congratulations on a great career, Silfvy!
Jakob Silfverberg will retire from the NHL at the conclusion of this season."
Through the team's official website, Silfverberg released a statement, saying that it's been an honor to play in the National Hockey League with the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks and went on to thanks his teammates, coaches, family and fans for their support over the years.
"It's been an honor and privilege to play in the National Hockey League," said Silfverberg. "I want to thank the Samueli family for being who they are, gracious, community-minded owners that support their team while making a significant impact in our community. Obviously I wouldn't be where I am without my teammates, all the trainers and staff that have helped me along the way. Most importantly, thank you to my family who have supported me as I lived out a dream."
"Thank you to the fans around the league, specifically in Anaheim and Ottawa. To spend 11 years in Orange County playing for the Ducks is something I will cherish every day, thanks in large part to all of you."
The 33-year-old appeared in 817 games in the NHL for Ottawa and Anaheim putting up 373 points (168 goals, 205 assists) and 262 penalty minutes.
