Bruins sign seven-year veteran to contract after successful PTO
After spending all of training camp and the start of the 2023-24 season with the Boston Bruins on a professional tryout contract (PTO), seven-year NHL veteran Danton Heinen has earned a deal with the club.
According to Conor Ryan, the Boston Bruins have signed Danton Heinen to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
"The Bruins have signed Danton Heinen to a one-year NHL contract with a cap hit of $775,000."
The 28-year-old was practicing on the Bruins' fourth line on Monday morning and led the team stretch before receiving a loud ovation from those on the ice, signally that they knew Heinen was about to sign with the organization.
Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery said that he's liked what he's seen from Heinen in practices recently.
"I've been really impressed because when we do practice, and there's opportunities for him to make plays or penalty kill, he's been very noticeable," Montgomery said. "He's making a lot of plays, a lot of smart plays."
Heinen, a native of Langley, British Columbia, was drafted by the Bruins in 2014 and went on to spent parts of four seasons in the NHL with them before being dealt to the Anaheim Ducks in early-2020.
Last season, Heinen appeared in 65 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins where he had 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists), 12 penalty minutes and was a minus-five.
