There will be no shortage of teams that will be lining up for a chance to sign the Russian blueliner, but it appears he already has one team in mind.
According to Matt Porter of the Boston Globe, Orlov is open to re-signing with the Boston Bruins, BUT his preference is to return to his former club, the Washington Capitals, where he spent parts of 11 seasons.
Orlov, 31, was traded to the Boston Bruins back on February 23rd in a three-team deal that involved the Minnesota Wild. Despite Boston's early exit from the post-season, Orlov's impact on the Bruins was massive.
In 23 regular season games, the Novokuznetsk native put up 17 points (four goals, 13 assists), 12 penalty minutes and was a plus-ten. He followed that up by recording eight assists in seven games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It's safe to say that the Bruins will do whatever it takes to keep Orlov, but the issue at hand may be salary and possibly even term. On Orlov's current contract that's set to expire, he made $5.1 million. There's no question he's likely going to get more than that, especially when considering that he's just put up one of the highest point totals among defenceman that are UFA's on July 1st.
