Back in April, long-time Boston Bruins play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards announced that he was retiring from his position with NESN after 19 NHL seasons. Edwards was one of the most well-known commentators around the National Hockey League and was beloved by fans in the Boston area, who listed to him on a nightly basis on NESN.
With the 2024-25 season getting underway in two months, the Boston Bruins have officially found their new play-by-play commentator for NESN and it's someone that is quite familiar among the fans who listen to their games on radio.
In a post on social media on Thursday, the Boston Bruins and NESN announced that Judd Sirott has been named their new play-by-play man starting this season.
Sirott says that he's honoured to be the new NESN play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins next season, saying that the position he's earned, calling games for an Original Six team is 'unrivaled' around the National Hockey League.
The 55-year-old began his play-by-play career in 1994 when he was the voice of the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves, a role he held up until 2006 before serving as a rinkside reporter for their playoff runs in 2007 and 2008.
Ahead of the 2017-18 season, Sirott was hired by 98.5 The Sports Hub to be the play-by-play announcer on the radio for the Boston Bruins and was in that position until the end of the 2023-24 campaign before being brought in by NESN.
