Boston Bruins officially announce replacement for Jack Edwards
The Boston Bruins have officially announced the replacement for Jack Edwards on their TV coverage on NESN.
Back in April, long-time Boston Bruins play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards announced that he was retiring from his position with NESN after 19 NHL seasons. Edwards was one of the most well-known commentators around the National Hockey League and was beloved by fans in the Boston area, who listed to him on a nightly basis on NESN.
With the 2024-25 season getting underway in two months, the Boston Bruins have officially found their new play-by-play commentator for NESN and it's someone that is quite familiar among the fans who listen to their games on radio.
In a post on social media on Thursday, the Boston Bruins and NESN announced that Judd Sirott has been named their new play-by-play man starting this season.
"New England Sports Network (NESN), the television and streaming home of the Boston Bruins, today announced Judd Sirott as the new play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins. Sirott will join Bruins alum and longtime NESN analyst Andy Brickley in the broadcast booth." The Bruins said in a post on their website.
Sirott says that he's honoured to be the new NESN play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins next season, saying that the position he's earned, calling games for an Original Six team is 'unrivaled' around the National Hockey League.
"This job is unrivaled around the National Hockey League: an Original Six team, in a spectacular hockey market, in one of the premier cities in the country," said Judd Sirott. "It's my honor to be NESN's new play-by-play announcer for the Boston Bruins. It will be a privilege to work with Andy Brickley and the NESN production crew, and I'm grateful to the Boston Bruins organization, NESN and 98.5 The Sports Hub and many others, for this opportunity."
The 55-year-old began his play-by-play career in 1994 when he was the voice of the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves, a role he held up until 2006 before serving as a rinkside reporter for their playoff runs in 2007 and 2008.
Ahead of the 2017-18 season, Sirott was hired by 98.5 The Sports Hub to be the play-by-play announcer on the radio for the Boston Bruins and was in that position until the end of the 2023-24 campaign before being brought in by NESN.
