Only a day after trading their defenseman Scott Perunovich to the New York Islanders, the St. Louis Blues officially completed a roster move, indicating that they want to make changes to get back in the playoffs.
After missing out on the playoffs for the past two seasons, the St. Louis Blues could finally qualify this year, being only five points away from a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
In breaking news, they have placed Brandon Saad, a Stanley Cup champion who played over 900 NHL games, on waiver.
Frank Seravalli shared the news in a post on X:
Saad, 32, won two Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015.
In 906 regular-season games, the 32-year-old veteran scored 515 points, including 260 goals. This year, in 43 games, he had 16 points, including seven goals.
He also took part in 103 playoff games, scoring 27 goals and 28 assists in eight runs.
This move came as a surprise for many fans, considering Saad looked like he was on the verge of finding rhythm, notably scoring a hat trick earlier in January.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta shared additional details, saying that the team has been trying to trade the veteran for weeks now, but couldn't make a deal involving him.
He also added that he was willing to waive his full no-trade clause.
Here's what he posted on X:
It'll be interesting to see if an organization decides to claim him and his $4,500,000
AAV contract with another season left on it.
We can imagine a team looking to add depth and experience could be tempted, such as the Columbus Blue Jackets or the Chicago Blackhawks.
Make sure to stay tuned for the latest updates from the NHL waiver wire, with Saad's fate set to be confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
