The sweepstakes for Elias Pettersson are heating up in the NHL as of late, and now, it appears that the Buffalo Sabres are emerging as the favourite to land the 26-year old star from the Vancouver Canucks.
Now, that report has been confirmed by Chad Dominicis, who confirms that report and also reveals that there is genuine momentum building between the two parties to get a deal done.
On top of that, top NHL Insider David Pagnotta has revealed the Canucks asking price for Pettersson from the Sabres, as it appears as though the team are seeking both Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram in return.
Given that Pettersson is a former 100-point scorer at just 26-years of age in the most important position in hockey, that's certainly a fair ask, as the Sabres are looking to upgrade at centre, with the team desperately needing a star at 1C to play alongside their biggest star in Tage Thompson.
Pagnotta also notes that they like Owen Power, who would be a major upgrade on Byram for the Canucks, and given their deficiencies on the blue line, some variation of this trade makes perfect sense for both parties.
Only time will tell whether or not these two teams can come together and make a deal happen, with teams like Boston and the New York Rangers still looming as trade possibilities for not only Pettersson but J.T. Miller as well, so while it makes sense on paper, there's plenty that needs to happen before Vancouver finally pull the trigger on a big trade.
